Foam parties are short, loud, and high stakes. You have a 30 to 60 minute window with a yard full of kids and one machine. Everything that goes wrong at a foam party goes wrong because of something you skipped before the cannon turned on.
Before you leave the shop
- Confirm the booking Wednesday or Thursday: address, start time, water source, outlet location, and headcount.
- Ask whether any child has a skin allergy, and confirm in writing that you use non-toxic hypoallergenic solution.
- Load two pails of solution even if one covers the event.
- Pack the 12 gauge cord, hose, splitter, tarp or zone markers, canopy, towels, safety sign, waiver clipboard, and a spare nozzle.
- Test the cannon in the driveway for 60 seconds. Never let the first run of the day happen in front of the customer.
Picking the foam zone
- Flat grass, 20x20 minimum, with a clear drainage path away from the house and the neighbor's yard.
- No concrete or pavers inside the play area. Foam on hard surfaces is genuinely slick and it is where injuries happen.
- At least 15 feet of clearance from decks, steps, fire pits, pools, and electrical panels.
- Cannon positioned upwind so foam drifts into the zone, not onto the buffet table.
- Keep the cannon, cord, and pump outside the play area, roped off or behind the canopy.
Never set a foam zone on a slope. Foam slides downhill, pools where you did not plan, and takes the fun and the security deposit with it.
Water, power, and mixing
- Verify 40+ PSI at the spigot. If pressure is weak, pre-fill a tank before guests arrive.
- Standard 110V outlet on its own circuit where possible. Do not share with a blower running an inflatable.
- Mix to the manufacturer's ratio, typically 30:1 to 50:1 for liquid concentrate. More soap does not mean more foam, it means a clogged pump.
- Powder packs: dissolve fully before the cannon runs, undissolved powder is the fastest way to jam a nozzle.
- Never run the pump dry. Refill before the tank hits empty.
The safety brief you give every time
- Signed waiver from the responsible adult before the cannon starts.
- Shoes off or water shoes only. No flip flops, no cleats.
- No running, tackling, diving, or piling on inside the foam.
- Eyes closed when the foam hits, and rinse eyes with clean water if solution gets in them.
- No glasses, phones, or jewelry in the foam zone. You will not find them.
- Adult supervision required at all times, you are running the cannon, not lifeguarding.
- Post your A-frame rules sign at the entrance to the zone so parents can read it themselves.

Run foam in waves rather than one continuous blast. Depth builds better, solution lasts longer, and kids get a breather between rounds. It also makes for far better video.
Teardown and machine care
- Flush clean water through the pump for two to three minutes at every event. Dried solution is what kills pumps.
- Drain the hose fully, coil loose, and never store it under tension.
- Wipe the cannon housing dry and let it air out at the shop before it goes back in the case.
- Inspect the nozzle for residue and the cord for nicks every single time.
- Log the event date on the machine so you can track hours against the warranty period.
Turning every foam party into marketing
- Shoot vertical video of the first big blast, that clip books more foam parties than any ad.
- Get wide, low, and side angles of the zone before the foam covers everything.
- Drop a yard sign with a QR code at the curb before you leave.
- Ask for the review while the parents are still smiling, not the next morning.
- Photograph kids only with explicit parent or school permission.
